Hi Everyone
I'm a filmmaker making a documentary about the rise of recreational pole dancing and was wondering if any one could help me?
I'm new to the art of pole dancing and am completely fascinated by this incredible type of exercise and performance.
I'm currently living in London and would really like to get an inside look on pole dancing and meet the talented instructors and participants.
If anyone is interested in being a part of the film or knows someone who can help me with this project, please get in touch at maiatarrell@gmail.com or here on Body and Pole!
Thanks,
Maia

Hi there,
Can you tell us all a little more about this documentry? Obviously there is a big difference between someone doing a student project that is unpaid, in contrast with being paid for appearances on a documentary for a major tv channel. Who is it being financed by? How big is the project? Is it focussing on the fitness angle or the glamour side? Do you have a website where people can find out more?
Thanks!

Hi Lia (and everyone)
Sorry, I completely forgot to mention these details last time! I got too excited about spreading the word on your forum!
I'm the making the documentary with the National Film and Television School (London) and therefore they are co-funding it. It is a genuine documentary film so I will not be paying people for their opinions and stories. It will be aimed at a festival market but if the film does well we could then pitch it to tv channels like the BBC's Storyville department.
I'm looking at exploring the recent shift of pole dancing into studios and gyms for the public. So, I will be focusing on the fitness angle but I'm interested in people who are taking it up recreationally for all sorts of reasons.
As a filmmaker, I'm interested in giving voice to women's stories and this seemed like a particularly fascinating story to tell! I think there are a lot of misconceptions about what pole dancing is and it would be nice to shed some light on the topic. I went to a class last week and was blown away. Turns out I have a lot to learn too!
Hopefully some of you out there would like to share your stories too
Thanks,
Maia |
